"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild."
Today was not going well for him at all. Marvin felt like he was losing his dignity as well as one of his friends in one day. Not to mention he could have lost his sanity.
A long sought after slay of a zombie had turned into a disaster. The young man was out with a group; two offenders, including himself, a couple of scavengers to reap a building of its goodies. It was none other than an old Italian restaurant. Of course it was not absent of zombie vermin. The two offenders, Marvin and Craig, were on the ready to, in Marvin's words, 'kick some zombie ass' though it had ended in disaster. Marvin was inches away from getting bitten, when his friend Craig leapt in and tried to save him by accidently knocking him over the head, causing a fall. Of course, Marvin got pissed. Not just at Craig's stupidity in mistaking the other male for a zombie but for the massive cut that was on his arm. Marvin felt maimed and betrayed. Who thought that having a baseball bat with a giant nail through it was such a good idea? It was stupid, especially when the wielder was an idiot.
Marvin was bleeding. The wound was not serious, though he needed the aid of stitches for it to heal up. It was just a cut, spanning an inch and a half on his forearm adjacent to his tattoo. The blood just would not stop, however. Marvin had tried to slow the bleeding by pressing a damp cloth over it, but the wound was too deep to stop bleeding soon. It looked too nasty to heal up quickly anyway. Back in the Safe Lands, he figured it best to get the wound seen to. Marvin would normally decide against it. It was nothing really, but the sting of the cut as well as the profuse flow of blood was not healthy for him. To the hospital it was.
Someone had instructed him to a particular room to get him cleaned up. Marvin complied simply because he wanted to get stitched up and get out of there as quick as possible. He had an agenda for the rest of the day - to bag some more sleep and perhaps have a sneaky drink or seven. With a curled up fist he rattled on the door. "Hello? Anyone here?" The male asked, returning his hand to where the cut was, ensuring that the sleeves of his flannel shirt were furled up to his elbows. The infamous hat was atop his head, tilted at a slant. He was wounded, yet he still held onto his pride in appearance. He was just so vain.

Maia was almost done for the day. And she was feeling rather pleased with herself. Though really, she wasn't in the mood for any rubbish from her last patient. It always seemed to be the case that she would have a lovely day and lovely patients and then the last one of the day would ruin it all. It was always the case. Though perhaps she would get lucky this time. Perhaps she would get a little child, she always loved them. Or a really lovely elderly person who would just tell her stories about the better times. Yes, she'd like that very much.
She never really got anyone nice for her last patient and she was sure that really, the nurses were playing some sort of cruel trick on her. Leaving the weirdos until last so then she could have them. It was always the same and she desperately wanted to say something about it. All of the doctors were practical enemies with the nurses but no one was brave enough to say anything about it. It had always been the same even when she started in medical school. There was a clear divide. Even the patients could see that.
So of course, when she heard the knock at the door, she realized that the voice coming from the other side...didn't sound old. So not a lovely elderly person then. Well, it could still be the father of a child. But wouldn't she hear the child? Well...that could only lead her to decide that the man on the other side of the door was alone. And he wasn't what she had expected, or wanted, at all. She could tell that without even asking him to come into her room. Well, she wouldn't have to deal with him for long. All she had to do was patch him up and send him on his way.
"It's open...you can come in," She shouted back, her French accent slipping through like it always did. She glanced back to the door for a moment before back to her desk. Now, what did this one have for her? Work accident, animal bite or something stranger. She never really asked normally. Unless it was beginning to get beyond suspicious. Like it had with Corbin. And she had been right about that. She moved her papers to the back of her bask, before turning round in her chair to see who came through the door. She crossed one leg over the other looking almost expectant at the person who came through the door.

"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild."
He just wanted to get patched up and out again to carry on with his usual escapades. Marvin had a lot planned for later on. A night of socialising was on the books. The last thing he wanted was to be bleeding everywhere. No doubt the wound inflicted on his arm would keep catching and opening up again. Yuck.
Hearing the confirmation to come in, he briskly pushed open the door. Marvin had never really expected who he saw in the room. To his delight it was a young woman. For some odd reason he had visions of an older woman or even a man, but not someone so fresh faced and furthermore, she was French. Wow. "Afternoon...." he offered her a flat greeting accompanied with a strange smile. "I was sent here to get patched up." Marvin spoke nonchalantly. "Think those guys wanted to get rid of me..." Probably because Marvin was moaning about his arm, and they just wanted him to be seen to ASAP. He gently bumped the door shut as he entered the room, hearing it creak shut shortly behind him. His hands were already occupied to shut the door properly. Not that he cared anyway. There was not much noise outside in the corridor to begin with anyway.
He paced up toward her, feeling his smile broaden a little. This brought back memories of when he used to get injured in the playground and he had to visit the nurses office. Which was often. He was such a reckless child and still was today. Marvin felt it necessary to give the woman an explanation. "Got hit by somethin' sharp, if you don't mind taking a look at it? I think I might need stitches as it won't stop bleeding." Marvin pulled up the chair and sat himself on it, facing her. He then removed the cloth that concealed his wound. It was soaked in blood, though some patches had darkened from drying up. It was still bleeding, though not as much as it did earlier. He rested his arm atop the table, turning it so she could get a better look at it. It was still sore. It nipped and stung, though thankfully it was not as bad as it was. "Just a stupid accident I got into," he dragged his eyes from the wound and then to her. She was attractive. Marvin could have some fun with this. A nurse, young, female...furthermore she sounded French. It was an interesting combination.

So he wasn't old and he wasn't bringing her a child to be treated. Oh well, he seemed pleasant enough from first impressions. And he seemed a bit bewildered by the whole thing. Yes, you did get sent to a doctor to get patched up. She glanced in the direction of where the reception would be if there hadn't been a wall there. The nurses sent him to her? Well, it was getting obvious what was happening here. She was being stuck with the troublemakers. First Corbin and now this one. But she smiled, holding up a pleasant facade.
"Yes, the nurses tend to do that if you irritate them. Want to get rid of you, I mean," She gave him an almost amused smile, motioning for him to sit down. He got hit by something sharp? Well, wasn't that a bit vague? This was starting to seem oddly reminiscent of that incident with Corbin. But she promised she wouldn't judge people again. So she waited for him to sit down before she pulled some gloves out from a little box on her desk so she could have a look. It was pretty deep, probably hit quite a few blood vessels seeing as it wouldn't stop bleeding. Right, first things first. She stood up a little, pulling a wad of cotton padding from a dispenser, before pressing it up against his arm.
"Okay, I need you to hold this down hard. Let's see if we can stop the blood flowing before I stitch it up, okay?" She turned back to her desk to take her gloves off for a moment. She could have sworn she caught him staring at her before, but she couldn't be certain. She gave him another look before turning her chair to busy herself with getting things out of drawers. It was going to have to be stitched, but first, antiseptic. She just hoped he didn't mind pain. She grabbed more of the cotton wool and another pair of gloves.
"What's your name? I hate being so formal about these things. I'm Maia," She had been specifically told on numerous occasions not to get on a first name basis with the patients. And yet she still did. She didn’t see what the problem was really. Perhaps it was too personal to be talking to patients and getting their names. If she was honest, it was more important now than ever.

"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild."
Tongue flicked off his teeth as if annoyed, but Marvin was still grinning. "Irritated them? Nah, I doubt it." Marvin remarked. "I don't irritate people..." Well that was a bit of a lie. He liked to think that he didn't. In reality he probably did. The nurses had probably seen all sorts of people and knew who meant trouble and who didn't. This nurse, however, must have been the most patient of the bunch. Maybe the others guessed she could put up with Marvin? Well, only time could tell.
It was vague of him to say he had got hit by something sharp, but Marvin was reluctant to delve into details, details on how his friend was an idiot. Not necessary. Within seated, he wriggled around for comfort, gaze locking on the woman as she fished out the required gear to get him on the mend. "Oh very professional. Gloves and everything...." He let slip cheekily, voice low and quiet. The young man was staring at her a little bit. She was attractive, and attractive women didn't go out of his line of sight that easily. Sometimes Marvin never acted on attractive females - sometimes looking at them was enough. "Oh, okay." Marvin finally tore his gaze from her and did as she had instructed. Like she had said he put pressure on where it was bleeding. It seemed to dull the pain a bit as well. "The pain has kinda worn off. It hurt like a bitch before." He mentioned very colloquially. He probably passed off as rude to her already, but he was being light hearted more than anything else. Marvin was rude by default.
Eyes looked to her again, and the squinted as he smiled. Maia. Unusual name. Though it suited her. "Marvin." He stated solidly. Sometimes he dropped his surname as well but not this time. A fair number of his friends called him 'Sully', but he was alright with just his first name. 'Sully' just made him feel more importantly, like he was in the armed forces. "I was named after Marvin Gaye. You know that guy that sang Sexual Healing?" Was that a deliberate thing to say? Marvin was not sure. He was amused at what he had said, and chuckled softly to himself. Sexual Healing...wow. What an inappropriate thing to say when sitting getting patched up by an attractive nurse. He needed to watch himself. He could earn himself a slap or a boot out of the door.

He wouldn't be here if he hadn't. She always got the annoying ones that no one else wanted. Because she never got angry with them. She gave him a polite smile. But she knew deep down that he probably irritated the hell out of people. She turned back to what she was doing, trying to ignore his little comments. Was he teasing her? She didn't really know but she was starting to understand why the nurses had been irritated by him.
He was staring at her and it was beginning to annoy her, so she was glad when she could practically throw the cotton wool at him and she could turn away. He'd finally stopped staring. Thank goodness. He was beginning to confuse her a little. She didn't really know what his motives were. But she seemed to have an idea of that as he told her his name...and who he had been named after. Well, if that wasn't inappropriate. She raised an eyebrow, almost disbelieving in what he had just said. For a moment, she hadn't even realized he'd said it, but then it hit her. Yeah, that was what he was implying.
"Oh really? Wasn't he the man that got shot by his father during an argument?" She gave him a smile, though her eyes were warning. He needed to watch himself. She wasn't like other nurses or doctors. She wasn't going to take any rubbish from him and she certainly wasn't going to get all giggly over some stupid comment he had made. She knew exactly how to get his attention off stupid comments like that. She pulled up the bottle of antiseptic, waving at his hand to move the cotton wool from his arm. "This is going to hurt...a lot..."
And without giving him any more warning, she was placing an antiseptic soaked cotton wool bud over the cut on his arm, glancing up every now and then to judge his reaction. She wondered if he would be able to come up with anything else smart to say to her now he had antiseptic sinking into his wound. Not that she was being mean. She just needed to teach him that she wasn't in the mood for flirting or anything like that.

"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild."
He always sought the opportunity to be inappropriate with his words. Marvin was a thrill seeker, an even just being a jerk through his own words he got a buzz from it. He was feeling the inclination to chuckle even more, but he didn't. Marvin tried to keep his face straight, but failed as his eyes were showing otherwise. He was enjoying every moment of it. Although the nurse looked very unresponsive to his words. That normally would irritate him, though he had only been in her room for a short time. He had to be even the tiniest bit patient to see how it would work out.
His Marvin Gaye reference had given him a notion to start singing. Though he refrained. He could always save his crooning if things ever turned sour. "I think so. But he was good when he was around. Love the guy...." Eyes lifted to meet hers and he caught onto the hint of warning. Alright maybe it really wasn't working. There was a breathed laugh from him, but it was out of slight disbelief more than anything else. Marvin had to learn he was not as charming as he thought. He was often far from it. However sometimes he could push the right buttons when in the right mood. Just now he was bleeding. Though even with a wound he was still willing to flirt with the nurse. The young man then took her warning with a smile curling on his lips. "I'll be fine." Marvin said. He was confident he would be, which was delusional considering she was going to apply antiseptic to his deep cut. Before she applied it, he finally started to sing. Might as well to lighten the mood between them. Good thign that Marvin could actually sing. His voice came out as a low croon. "Baaaaaby...I'm hot just like an oven...I need some lovin'....."
[/i] His bubble was burst the moment he felt the pain. The sting was unbelievable, and shot to the ends of his nerves. Marvin winced with one violent jerk of his body. "OW THAT HURTS." Marvin yelled hoarsely, his voice straining slightly. Eyes tightly screwed shut, as he tried to cope with the pain. Foot stamped the ground a couple of times. Marvin was probably overreacting like he usually did, but the feeling was not the most pleasant. That shut him up. He gave a low hiss from behind clenched teeth. She wouldn't have been surprised if she was honest. He seemed like that type of person. But she wasn't one to blush over sexual innuendo and stupid remarks. She nodded at his words. Sure, Marvin Gaye had been a good singer when he was around, he'd just met an unfortunate end at the hands of his father. Though her warning look didn't seem to do much as he was right back on trying to impress her again as soon as the Marvin Gaye conversation had passed.
Oh...he'll be fine, will he? She was looking forward to seeing that. If he thought that he was going to be able to cope with the pain then he was delusional as well as an idiot. There really was no hope for him. But as she got the antiseptic ready, she allowed herself to listen to him singing. Of course, she didn't really mean to, but before she knew it, a smile was playing across her face. He wasn't actually that bad. She was impressed. Though she had to snap herself out of her daze so she could press the antiseptic to his arm. And she got exactly the reaction she was expecting.
"I did warn you..." She couldn't help the sing-song tone to her voice. It was like she was chastising a small child for falling off a bike or something. She found herself giving him a sympathetic smile before she could even stop herself. And then she was done, and she mumbled a small sorry in his direction. She really did feel a little sorry when she had to inflict pain on people. Even him...though she would never admit it. She sat back a little, waiting for his pain to subside before she spoke again.
"You okay? Worst part over..." She let her gaze drop to the spray that she would use to numb his arm so she could stitch it. She reached her hand over to pick up the bottle, shaking it slightly before she put it back down to get the sutures ready so she could stitch up his wound. She let him sit for a bit longer, watching him slightly as she messed with the things on her desk. "Okay, you ready for the next bit?"

"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild."
The sting had come as a shock, and perhaps he had overreacted. Marvin was now squirming under her power, though was nog going to be begging for mercy anytime soon. That would make him look like a right wuss, and Marvin's reputation thrived on being bold and courageous. The sing-song of her voice didn't help him. He just writhed around in his seat. "I know..." he managed to squeeze out. She did warn him, but here he was thinking he could cope with the pain. It was more painful than receiving the cut itself. He picked up on the sympathetic smile. Well, good thing was she wasn't enjoying inflicting more pain on him. That assured him a bit.
When she was done he wrapped his hand around his wrist, still holding it on the table. He could feel it throbbing and stinging, and thankfully subduing a little. "Thank God for that." he mumbled. Worst part over. Marvin sure hoped so. He couldn't imagine anything more unpleasant than that. "But that's it clean now yeah?" he asked Maia, twisting his arm around to get a better look at it. "At least I won't get gangrene or whatever you call it." He snickered a little uncomfortably. It was still nipping, but not half as bad as it was before. Eyes lifted from his wound to her, watching her as she fumbled around at her desk. She was very professional at least. He managed to pull a smile. It was a little forced, but it surfaced no doubt. "You seem to know what you're doing, Miss Maia." he said playfully. Seemed like Marvin was reverting back to himself now that he was feeling smaller doses of pain.
Next bit? Ah yes, the actual stitching. Marvin sucked in a breath, smiling coyly at her. "Alright. Stitch me up, nurse." He said confidently Now that the worst part was over, Marvin felt like he could dip into a casual conversation with her. There was no point in sitting there making things awkward. "So, how long have you been a nurse?" He asked. Marvin enjoyed talking to women, especially those as attractive as she was.

They all do until they're writhing around in pain and begging her to stop. And she had told him what she told anyone who did the same. She did warn him. It wasn't her fault that he was too proud to admit that it was going to hurt. She would have preferred him to do that rather than pretend he could deal with the pain coming his way. She would have thought better of him if he had done that. As it were, she couldn't help but feel that he was trying to impress her in some way. It wasn't working of course, and he was going to have to try harder than that.
Yes...you're not going to get gangrene. But you still hold the risk of tetanus...so I'll have to give you a shot after I'm done, okay?" Though she just hoped he wouldn't try the 'being brave' thing on her then as well, when he was terrified of needles. She really hoped he wasn't scared because then she would loose all respect for him. If he was trying to impress her, then he was doing it wrong. It wasn't working and if anything, he was just making it worse. She picked up her spray moving to spray it over his arm before she stopped, figuring out what he had just said. Had he just called her a nurse?
"I'm not a nurse...I'm a doctor. Graduated medical school early thanks to all this hell," She waved her hand around once before she went back to his arm spraying the wound carefully. And now she just had to wait a few moments for it to go numb and she could start. And then she could get him out of her room. So it was safe to say that him leaving couldn't come soon enough. But she did suppose she should make conversation with him seeing as they would just be sitting awkwardly otherwise. "Went to medical school when I was 21. Spent three years there before all hell broke loose and we were all fast tracked. They needed doctors in the hospitals, not students in the classroom,"

"Gonna break it loose, Gonna keep it movin' wild." There was a gentle breath of relief upon hearing that his wound was not infectious. Though a shot after this didn't sound like fun. Marvin hated getting injections, but he would man up to it. "Alright," he said to her. "I guess that makes sense." Marvin really was deluded to think that he could impress a woman by his behaviour. He had to reorganize his ideas if he wanted to make a good impression. The fact that he was not impressing her pretty much flew over his head. He honestly could not see what he was doing wrong here. However it became clear who was the most impressed out of the two of them.
Eyebrows lifted in slight surprise upon her confirmation on being a doctor. He had made that wild assumption she was a nurse. "Wow. Then you must have brains," he paused for a moment, looking over the woman before him rapidly. "As well as good looks, may I add," Marvin said to her, voice lower and smoother. He was so incessant. As she sprayed his arm he felt it tingle, and still sting a bit from before. Marvin sucked in a light breath, glancing down at his arm with a little amusement. "My arm feels funny..." He managed to slip in before Maia continued. Hearing her words he listened intently, which was surprising. For a brief moment Marvin was intent on what the doctor had to say rather than studying her appearance. He did some brief math in his head. She was not much older than him, only three years. "Yeah," he spoke faintly. It made sense that she was needed in the hospitals. "Bet half the doctors in London have turned into the walking dead by now anyways," he snickered.
What Maia was telling him sparked off a few memories of his time at university. Marvin was a music student. He only took that course as he could not do anything else and he had the aptitude for entertaining people with music. "I was a music student before all hell broke loose," he parroted her own words. "Unfortunately there is no high demand for musicians so I spend a lot of my time kicking zombie ass instead." He put it bluntly.
